shaindlin vocal studio
Singing is complex. I help students grasp the intricacies of singing and bring clarity to the process. I eliminate unsustained, breathy sound and strengthen the voice so it can have expressive color. Doing this brings the words to the forefront. Acting the song won’t be overlooked in my studio. The text is paramount. The young artist needs a solid core of sound, easily produced, a connection to the text, and a sense of fun and confidence. Strong low notes, a rich middle, and an exciting top are within every student’s grasp, but singing is more than just belting. I address the entire voice.
I’m proud to say that my students have been accepted at the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama, Northwestern, Otterbein University, USC, UCLA, and NYU as well as Boston College, Boston University, Indiana University, Baldwin Wallace, The Hartt School of Music, Manhattan School of Music, Marymount Manhattan, University of Michigan, Syracuse University, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Pace University, Emerson College, Texas State University, Penn State and more.
I prepare young artists for college auditions which can be daunting. I’m well versed in the needs and wants of all prospective schools. I’m aware of the hurdles and potholes that lie in the way of college auditions and I will work with the young artist to navigate through those difficulties.
I give a supportive, all-encompassing and positive approach that suits the needs of each individual performer.
I’m based in Glendale California and prefer in-person lessons, but am happy to Zoom when necessary. I accept all new talent. No audition necessary.

JILLIAN ABAYA, NYU 2022
“Dan helped me through musical theatre college audition season, which is arguably the most stressful point in a young aspiring actor’s career. Not only did he help me find my personal power as a performer, but he completely changed the way I view singing and vocal technique. He’s helpful, genuine, hilarious, and has the ability to transform a singer into an artist.”

Gabrielle Filloux, The Hartt School 2019
“Working with Dan as a musical director was essential to my growth as an artist and person. He fervently believes in his students/casts, allowing them to chase after their biggest dreams with unshakeable support. His love of theatre permeates through every choice and direction he makes. Without Dan, I would not have taken risks to grow, achieve and adore this craft with as much fearless devotion as I have now.”

Tylero Okunski, Elon University 2022
“I can’t recommend Dan enough as a voice teacher. Meeting him in my formative years as a singer, he really shaped the way I perceived my own instrument, not only from a technical perspective but an artistic one as well guided me to find my true voice, my unique sound. Dan will always push you to reach your highest potential as a singer and artist. I always left each lesson feeling like a healthy, confident singer.”

Talia Gloster, UCLA 2021
“Dan Shaindlin’s years of experience as a voice teacher, and as a vocalist himself, could stand on their own in speaking to his knowledge and skill as a musician. However, on top of this, Dan invests a particular, deep, very personal care in his students that makes him truly one of a kind!”

Julie garber, University of Michigan 2022
“Dan’s mentorship as a young artist lead me to the career I have today. He develops foundational trust with his students that allows him to give honest, constructive criticism that pushes their abilities without hurting their confidence or sense of value. This instilling of confidence and support of constant evolution and learning is rare in a teacher, and became core to my feeling of potential and drive as a young artist. To this day I know he is in my corner and willing to help me at the drop of a hat, and I am ever grateful for the guidance and support he has offered me throughout my development as a creative.”
